NAPPC Awards Research/Habitat Grants to Promote Lepidoptera Conservation in North America

The North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC), managed by Pollinator Partnership (P2), has awarded funding to three new projects related to Lepidoptera conservation. Overseen by the NAPPC Lepidoptera Task Force, the 2024 Lepidoptera Grant Program funded projects that explore one or more identified priority areas that will improve habitat and fill research gaps concerning Lepidoptera species in North America.

The North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) highlights some of the continent’s most ardent and inspiring pollinator advocates, including farmers, landscape designers, electric power companies, high school students, and nurseries.

On October 17, 2023, this year’s award winners from the United States, Canada, and Mexico were honored by Pollinator Partnership and the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) during the NAPPC Conference Award Ceremony hosted at US EPA Headquarters in Washington DC. NAPPC hopes that in lifting up these remarkable individuals and organizations, others will be inspired to create real change for pollinators in their communities. Read full press release.

It’s Official! Pollinator Partnership Makes Third-Party Verified Option of Bee Friendly Farming® Certification Available to All. Check it out!

Pollinator Partnership is pleased to announce that the new third-party verification option for its Bee Friendly Farming® Certification is available for all farmers. Bee Friendly Farming® Certification is a program designed to encourage farmers and growers to provide safe habitats for bees and other pollinators. This option has been developed in partnership with and overseen by Where Food Comes From. Silk Canada, a brand from Danone, and KIND Snacks were the first brands to step forward in support of this program along with two almond suppliers in California, Harris Woolf Almonds and Treehouse California Almonds. As the world celebrates World Bee Day on May 20, 2023, Pollinator Partnership is pleased to announce a new third-party verification option for its Bee Friendly Farming® Certification, a program designed to encourage farmers and growers to provide safe habitats for bees and other pollinators. This option has been developed in partnership with and overseen by Where Food Comes From. The North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC), managed by Pollinator Partnership (P2), has awarded a new research grant related to honey bee health issues with funding made possible by JAFRA Cosmetics International, Inc. This Honey Bee Health Grant will explore multiple priority areas concerning the stressors impacting honey bees in North America, including the effects of pesticides on pest, pathogen, and disease incidence, and the development of diagnostics tools to detect the effects of pesticide exposure. Pollinator Partnership Honors 2020 Monarch Sustainer of the Year Award Winner Daikin Texas Technology Park for Monarch Butterfly Initiatives in Texas

Pollinator Partnership is pleased to announce the winner of the 2020 Monarch Sustainer of the Year award, Daikin North America’s Daikin Texas Technology Park (DTTP), a consolidated manufacturing, engineering, marketing, and sales location for heating and air conditioning products. Daikin is committed to environmental stewardship, holding the LEED Gold certification for its offices and energy management system and championing annual hands-on Earth Day activities that teach local students about the lifecycle and habitats of pollinators. As Daikin became more aware of local biodiversity issues related to the monarch butterfly, it felt compelled to integrate monarch biodiversity into its strategic business plan. Celebrating Bee Friendly Farming® Certified Almond Orchards
on National Almond Day

Pollinator Partnership (P2) announced today that it has certified over 55,000 acres of almonds in 2020 as pollinator friendly and environmentally sustainable through its Bee Friendly Farming® (BFF) Certified program. The Almond Board of California’s Bee+ Scholarship program has been instrumental in leading this movement by offsetting the cost of BFF certification, allowing land managers to apply those funds that would be used on certification fees to pollinator habitat. Coupled with significant Integrated Pest Management, the floral resources now available for local and migratory pollinators will increase biodiversity and add a variety of benefits to almond operations across California. Pollinator Partnership's Bee Friendly Farming to Work with the Almond Board of California Sustainability Program

Walmart Plants Pollination Plots

Walmart Inc. officials said they are working to counter pollinator population decline through a pilot program that started last spring with the planting of pollination gardens at about 20 of its stores nationwide. Walmart spokeswoman Anne Hatfield said the retailer aims to encourage other businesses, as well as its customers, to follow suit and create their own pollination gardens.

Mite-A-Thon Begins Today! Involvement Supports Honey Bee Health and Measures Infestation Levels Across the Continent

The Mite-A-Thon (MAT), an international citizen science effort to teach measurement protocols to learn
the varroa mite infestation levels of hives, collect mite infestation data and to visualize varroa mite
infestations in honey bee colonies across North America, runs from September 7-21, 2019. All beekeepers
are encouraged to participate within this two-week window to gain knowledge of the level of mite
infestation that their hives are carrying just before the overwintering season begins.

More Than One Million Strong: National Pollinator Garden Network Surpasses Goal of One Million Registered Pollinator Gardens

In just three years, 1,040,000 gardens were registered with the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge (MPGC) involving an estimated eight million people, concentrated in the United States, and Canada with some in Mexico, and across the globe. From tiny yards to public gardens, the million plus gardens add up to a network of approximately five million acres of enhanced or new pollinator habitat.
