Avery is a passionate advocate for native bees, interested in the relationship between sustainable agriculture, food justice, and pollination ecology. Originally from San Francisco, she followed her interest in bees across the country to the University of Florida where she received a degree in Entomology with a specialization in Sustainable Food Production. Avery’s research experience includes projects on ant speciation and insect susceptibility to climatic extremes, with a focus on native bees in Lesvos, Greece. She completed senior honors research modeling plant-pollinator interactions in small-scale cropping systems, underscoring her commitment to welcoming native pollinators back into agricultural landscapes through research application and science communication. As Program Associate at Pollinator Partnership, Avery supports the Pollinator Steward Certification program, Bee Friendly Gardening initiative, BeeSmart School Garden Kit development, and pollinator habitat education in California orchards. She is dedicated to translating science into accessible tools that empower communities to support pollinators. Outside of work, you can find Avery diving into her latest crafting endeavor, reading climate fiction novels, or on a long walk photographing bees.
