Pollinator Partnership and NRCS West
Clara Buchholtz, NRCS Idaho Partner Biologist
Clara grew up exploring the Sierra–Cascade foothills near her hometown of Chico, CA, where she developed an early love of the natural world. After studying neuroscience and German as an undergraduate, she pursued her interest in ecology through a master’s degree at Chico State researching distribution patterns of Tamalia aphids on manzanita shrubs. In 2018, Clara moved to Boise, Idaho, for a doctorate at Boise State, where she studied the pollination biology and pollinator networks of the rare plant Astragalus mulfordiae. As a NW Climate Adaptation Science Center Fellow, she worked with the Idaho Bureau of Land Management on research aimed at improving conservation of this species and its pollinator communities on public lands. Clara works with agricultural producers and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, providing technical assistance, education, and outreach to support pollinator habitat on working lands. In her free time, she enjoys baking adventures, all manner of board games, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

Emily Carlson, NRCS Oregon Partner Biologist
Emily holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Gonzaga University and a PhD in Horticulture with a Concentration in Entomology from Oregon State University. Prior to joining Pollinator Partnership, she served two years with the Washington Conservation Corps (AmeriCorps), then worked for the King Conservation District and a wetland nature preserve. Through these positions, she performed on the ground restoration and facilitated adult educational workshops for farmers, ranchers, and other land managers who sought to improve natural resources on their working lands. While pursuing her PhD, Emily focused on understanding how native bees and honey bees experience pesticide exposure differently in agricultural production areas. Through this work, Emily partnered with land managers and beekeepers to help them achieve their pest management goals while protecting pollinating insects in their fields. In her role with P2, Emily helps land managers plan and implement pollinator habitat through Farm Bill programs. Contact her for assistance with understanding pollinator needs, connecting to educational resources, accessing federal funding pools, and conservation planning support. Emily is based out of Oregon but serves the Western USA.

Find Your Roots Tool
Welcome to Pollinator Partnership Pollinator Plant Selection Tool, Find Your Roots. The tool is based on the lists of native plants that support pollinators from our Ecoregional Planting Guide Series. Guides contain detailed information on pollinators, how to help them, and feature specific ecoregional information. Use this tool to make it easier to create customized plant lists for your region and requirements. You can create your plant list by first selecting your region, using your zip code or selecting your location on a map. Then, you will be able to filter plants based on your pollinator planting needs. It’s easy and fun, and the bees and butterflies will thank you!

The NRCS eVegGuide
The NRCS eVegGuide (electronic Vegetative Guide) is a tool for finding plants and seeds for NRCS land conservation practices. An eVegGuide report shows recommended plants, seeds, and planting recommendations to implement a particular practice at a chosen location. The eVegGuide is a sub-section of the California eFOTG (electronic Field Office Technical Guide). It contains the most recent information from the Lockeford Plant Materials Center and the USDA Plants database.

The Calflora Database
The Calflora Database is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing information about California plant biodiversity for use in Education, Research and Conservation. Calflora is structured as a digital library to fulfill the following objectives:
- to serve as a repository for information on California wild plants in electronic formats from diverse sources, including public agencies, academic institutions, private organizations, and individuals;
- to provide this information in readily usable electronic formats for scientific, conservation, and educational purposes;
- to serve public information needs related to scientific study, land management, environmental analysis, education, and appreciation of California plant life.
