Pollinator Story: Old Dominion University

The Conservation Biology Club of ODU constructed a pollinator garden at a fire station across the street from campus, where there was previously a grassy lawn and few pollinator resources. Some of the pollinator friendly plantings were donated by the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Researchers at ODU have also been monitoring native bee homes that they constructed and then placed on campus, and in the suburbs surrounding the campus, in an effort to to learn more about the diversity of pollinations that use these types of 'insect hotels', and to assess the costs and benefits of these hotels for pollinators.
