Pollinator Stewardship Certification Intern

The Pollinator Stewardship Certification intern will work with local staff at Pollinator Partnership Canada to further develop, support, and conduct Pollinator Stewardship Certification trainings. This unique certification program demonstrates that you have a science-based understanding of pollinators and gives you the practical know-how to help them. Certification also shows that you have used your knowledge to create habitat and educate others.

Key duties include:

1) Assisting in outreach and planning of PSC sessions locally in Toronto as well as throughout Canada and the US;

2) Supporting the development of technical information for PSC trainings and other relevant outreach materials; and

3) Supporting other pollinator conservation and outreach activities occurring throughout the 2019 season, including honey bee health initiatives, Bee Smart School Garden Kit programs, and pollinator week activities.

The Pollinator Stewardship Certification Intern will be supervised locally by Vicki Wojcik and will work out of office space at Pollinator Partnership Canada headquarters at 1139 College Street, Toronto. Some local and regional travel will be required.

Compensation of 15.00/hour for 280 hours, or 35 hours/week for 8 weeks, for a total of $3,920.00.

Start date: June 10^rd, 2019 (tentative) for the duration of 8 weeks.

Newfoundland Pollinator Stewardship Associate

The Newfoundland Pollinator Stewardship Associate will work with Pollinator Partnership Canada, the Newfoundland and Labrador Beekeeping Association and Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden to develop education and outreach materials and a local outreach program focused on engaging farmers and the public in pollinator support. In addition to outreach activities at local farmer’s markets and NLBA meetings, the Newfoundland Pollinator Stewardship Associate will assist in developing habitat support and planting guidelines as well as best management practices for agricultural industries in Newfoundland that focus on supporting honey bees and native bees.

Key duties include:

1) Developing a habitat manual for local gardeners and the general public, based on the current template used by Pollinator Partnership Canada, including ecologically appropriate planting lists of Newfoundland and Labrador and relevant ecology on local pollinators (see attached);

2) Developing a technical manual for pollinator support on farms in Newfoundland and Labrador (see attached Honey Bee Forage and Ontario Ag Guide for context), with a focus on supporting honey bee health and native bees across all applicable agricultural systems; and

3) Developing a series of technical notes that for pollinator support on farms and distributing these materials at farmers markets in St. John’s and other relevant meetings.

The Newfoundland Pollinator Stewardship Associate will be supervised locally by Kim Shipp and will work out of office space provided by the Botanical Garden at MUN. Some local and regional travel will be required.

Compensation of 13.00/hour for 240 hours, or 30 hours/week for 8 week, for a total of $3,120.
