Born and raised in Southern Ontario, Gavin grew up on a hobby farm with horses, chickens, and lots of outdoors to explore. His explorations and a healthy love for educational television led him to pursue a BSc in Zoology at the University of Guelph. While there, he became enamoured with the diversity, complexity, and ubiquity of plant-insect interactions. To continue learning about plant-insect interactions through research, he completed an MSc in Integrative Biology. In his MSc thesis, he simulated pollinator decline and looked at natural selection on floral traits in gynodioecious Great Blue Lobelia. After finishing his schooling, Gavin worked in agricultural contexts producing mushrooms, assessing hazelnut cultivar trials, and rearing insects for pest management research. Since he enjoys learning about the evolution and ecology of plant-insect interactions, Gavin is excited to continue using his research and artistic skills with Pollinator Partnership Canada. Here, he hopes to share knowledge about pollinator habitat management in a variety of contexts. Outside of work, Gavin enjoys hiking, dancing, and a variety of artistic pursuits.
