Emily Haluda was born and raised in northern Indiana along the St. Joseph river, to a family with very green thumbs. All her life she has been participating in the family garden, and now is blessed to have a farm of her own in Southwest Michigan with her husband, Gabriel. Growing food for the family and habitat for local pollinators has been a lifelong passion for her. Getting to share her education with others is an important part of her role at Pollinator Partnership. She graduated from Lake Superior State University, located in the upper peninsula of Michigan with a Bachelors of Science in Parks and Recreation, as well as with an Associates degree in Natural Resource Technology. At her time in university she fell in love with the great state of Michigan, and began seeking out conservation opportunities. Emily spent several years working with the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program, also known as MAEAP, and became heavily invested in agriculture programs like 4h. From urban community gardens to commodity crops, Emily is proud of the work she has done with producers from all walks of life. Working with her husband, their family raises livestock such as sheep, oxen, chickens, turkeys, and pigs. Her favorite animal on the farm is their senior draft horse, Tilly, who was a rescue. She is also preparing to install pollinator habitat in their newly planted orchard, where they will eventually be able to harvest heirloom varieties of apples and pears amongst the native wildflowers.
