Pollinator Story: Bureau of Land Management
The US Department of the Interior - Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages 247 million acres of public land for multiple use and sustained yield, primarily in the western United States. BLM manages wildlife habitat to help ensure self-sustaining, abundant, and diverse populations of wildlife on public lands. Native bee diversity hotspots, such as the Great Basin and the desert southwest, overlap with areas where BLM manages large portions of the landscape. BLM is an active national player in pollinator habitat management and monitoring. Current pollinator-related priorities include production and application of diverse native plant seed, inventory and monitoring of flowering plants and pollinators, coordination with local, regional, and national monitoring efforts, balancing apiaries and native bee habitat requirements, identification and conservation of sensitive species, monarch habitat restoration and management, and reduction of impacts of pesticide use.
